Summary/Objective

Under the leadership of the VP of Business Development, the primary responsibilities of the Business Development Manager (BDM) includes managing Independent Insurance Agent relationships within a specified territory. This includes identifying, prospecting, and contracting agencies with Method Insurance as well as training each agency on how to best work with Method. The objectives of the BDM are to obtain new business submissions, track individual agency production, manage the territory portfolio, ensure efficient and effective communication that will generate quotes and bound premium working in collaboration with Underwriting. The BDM is the face of Method to customers and will manage the overall company brand, strategy, messaging, and any agency management issues that should arise throughout the development of our relationship with our prospective and contracted independent insurance agencies.

It will be expected to produce consistent reports both formally and informally on activities outlining the results of our existing and prospective agency relationships. Within a specified territory, the BDM will have an annual and monthly premium, submission, quote, and bind budget to manage accordingly. Agencies will then also be evaluated based on the number of submission opportunities, quotes, and binders and overall written premium in respect to the budget.

The Business Development Manager must engage the Agency Partners in our E x 3 Approach – Exceptional Service, Expert Underwriting & Distribution, and Extensive Appetite & Markets. This individual is responsible for building agency relationships that are mutually beneficial and profitable to the overall company goals and strategy.

Essential Functions

  • Prospect and initiate conversations with new independent insurance agents throughout the specified geographic territory provided until contracted agency goal is achieved
  • Utilize a consultative sales approach and follow a strategic marketing plan to develop agency relationships that produces new business opportunities consistently and effectively
  • Perform weekly sales calls and schedule face-to-face agency visits with new and existing relationships to drive in new submission opportunities
  • Make formal sales presentations and follow-up on calls for existing and prospecting independent insurance agents
  • Onboard and train new independent insurance agents on our appetite, submission process, and service platform
  • Collaborate with internal staff to ensure that accounts are brought through the Lifecycle of a Submission and carried into production results accordingly.
  • Learn and utilize our sales strategy to effectively resolve client objections and maximize sales activity levels within each one of our selected agency partners
  • Evaluate and determine client needs and develop a plan of action to offer Exceptional Service to attract new business opportunities
  • Consult and work in unison with Method’s Brokerage Division to create a seamless experience for independent insurance agents
  • Meet/exceed performance expectations including weekly calls, appointments, and production results
  • Document all activity including contacts, calls (phone or in-person), appointments, and opportunities within our Agency Relationship Management (ARM) system

  • Comprehension of a task-based workflow system to manage prospective and current customers and accounts

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position operates generally in a professional office setting but also has requirements to be out of the office visiting agencies in their offices on a regular basis.

Position & Expected Hours

This is a full-time, salaried exempt, position. Typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, however, the employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and must work 37.5 hours each week.

Travel

Travel is expected.

Required Education & Experience

  • At least two years’ business experience, either in Sales or Professional Services
  • Work Comp or Insurance Experience is preferred, but not required

Summary/Objective

The primary responsibilities include prospecting and building relationships with independent insurance agents. The objective of a Business Development Specialist (BDS) is a 2-phase approach. First phase includes prospecting new potential agency partners, establishing if they are an ideal partner to contract with, onboarding & training the agency staff on appetite and submission process, and building a solid mutual working relationship. The second phase is focused on production and agency management, which includes obtaining new business submissions, tracking production, ensuring efficient and effective communication with Underwriting to generate quotes and binders as well as managing any conflict, messaging, branding, and agency management issues that should arise with our contracted agency partners.

The Business Development Specialist (BDS) will be vitally critical in rolling out Method’s Work Comp Program across the country as we expand into new states and territories. As Method grows, the BDS will be managing a range of the distribution partners by working with 150-350 agencies across multiple states. This individual will serve as the main point of contact and liaison between Distribution and Underwriting. It will be expected to produce regular reports both formally and informally on activities and results of these designated targeted agency relationships under this role’s management. There will be specified premium objectives and goals to hit each month within the designated territory and with those agency partners.

Summary/Objective

The primary responsibilities include working the submission portal, entering new business submissions into carrier systems, collaborating with underwriting on next steps with an account, and/or communicating with our agency partners for necessary marketing information. This role works closely with underwriting and sales to achieve the results for getting new business out to market for our Agency Partners.

The Underwriting Specialist will need be trained to have basic knowledge about our carriers’ appetite, account information needed to reserve and quote a risk, and understand the marketplace dynamics by state, class of business, and carrier. This role is on the front-line of servicing our Agency Partners and providing them with their initial experience of working with Method. It is important that they are process-oriented, detail-oriented and have strong communication skills to provide accurate details or documentation to our Underwriting team regarding a new business submission.

The Underwriting Specialist is the forefront of our E x 3 Approach – Exceptional Service, Expert Underwriting & Distribution, and Extensive Appetite & Markets. This individual will be responsible for the E x 3 Approach being enforced with our Agency Partners as well as contributing to the team’s overall production goals.

Essential Functions

  • Gain understanding and knowledge of carriers and appetite
  • Manage submission workflow from the initial point of contact to reserving with carrier(s)
  • Assist underwriting in necessary tasks to get information from agencies and carriers on new business submissions
  • Collaborate with internal staff to ensure accounts are brought through the Lifecycle of a Submission and carried into production results accordingly
  • Document all activity on accounts and communication with agents, underwriting, and sales in our Agency Management System
  • Identify and work to create process improvement where necessary in our new business submission model with both carriers and internally between our systems
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by getting licensed, attending insurance workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Contribute to overall company strategy and execution – set up new business accounts for underwriting, collaborate with sales & underwriting as needed to derive given results from carriers, provide feedback from carriers to underwriting, and continually focus on process improvement
