Now nearly 2 years into the pandemic, COVID continues to have a significant impact on public health.
Worldwide, the Coronavirus has claimed 5 million lives and counting. Over the course of the pandemic, scientists have tracked many COVID variants but today, the Delta variant is the dominant strain. Data indicates that the Delta variant has increased transmissibility and is more likely to affect unvaccinated people.
Here’s how to protect ourselves and one another:
If you are fully vaccinated…
Wear a mask indoors if transmission rates are high/substantial in the area.
Wear a mask indoors if you or someone in your household is at increased risk of severe disease.
If you are not fully vaccinated…
Continue wearing a mask indoors and even outdoors if you are in close contact with other people.
Consult with your doctor about getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Getting vaccinated remains the best way to keep you and your loved ones safe from severe disease. Vaccines are widely available, safe, and effective in preventing severe disease. If you do have any questions or concerns, please find reputable sources, like your physician, to address them.
On September 9, 2021, President Joe Biden issued new executive orders:
Private employers with more than 100 employees must require vaccination or weekly testing. They must provide paid time off for vaccination or to recover if an employee is feeling ill post-vaccination.
Health facilities that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding must require vaccination.
Employees of Head Start early childhood education and other federal education programs must be vaccinated.
Contractors who do business for the federal government must require vaccination with no option for testing. There will be exceptions available for those with religious or medical exemptions.
A fine of $14,000 per violation will be administered through OSHA.
There will be an upcoming emergency temporary standard released from OSHA. It is currently being written.
